That's the end of that New Year's resolution.

I suppose that almost 5 months is pretty far above the norm for the "I'm going to get into shape this year" resolution, so a round of one handed applause may be in order here. Then again, maybe they fell off that ball one too many times and injured their back, causing them not be able to use the Abdominizing Roller thingy that makes the couple that we see here. Either way, it seems that it's Hasta La Vista for them both.

Basking in the early morning sun.

Ahhhhhhh!

It's pretty misty - that's more of what we're used to.

This morning started out quite foggy and misty, but the temperature was still fairly mild. We headed out to find the bird that was tapping on the metal roof of the barn next to us. Thinking it was a Woodpecker - seemed to make sense to me, anyways - I was surprised to find this little fellow ringing his head off the corrugated steel roof. Nothing says 'Pick me for a mate!' like making clanging noises that could wake the dead.

It actually was sunny.Who'd a thunk it?

Yes, the weather forecast was accurate. We got 2 beautiful days of sun and 20C temperatures. It meant that we could go out into the world without wearing coats, needed sunglasses, and didn't need to start a fire to warm up the house during the day.

Awesome.

I know it's only Tuesday...but

Normally I would discount a weather forecast this far in advance as being 'subject to extreme change', but when it looks like this I would rather err on the side of optimism than give in to my more common view in the winter months.

Here's hoping it comes true, since I'm off all weekend.

In the late day sun...again

You know the drill by now. Logan and I take a walk. He runs around in search of the worlds best stick and I take pictures. This evening we went to our usual haunt, the field and sheds above the house. He found the days greatest stick and chewed it down to nothing while I shot the old car and the shed as the sun set behind us. It was a great way to end a nice day.

Another beautiful day begins

The sun is up and it's nice and warm on the face as Logan and I set out on our morning walk. Still no deer, though Logan does manage to find traces of their having been here. The field above our house is wide open and flat, so he takes to running at breakneck speed all around, his tongue hanging out of this mouth (as I write this he lies flopped down on the floor snoozing - cause and effect at work).

The winter has taken it's toll on the sheds up the hill from the house. A good windstorm and this blue one will be down, though not due to a tree falling on it like its neighbour - ouch!

On the job again

Logan is happy to be out sniffing around for adventure these days. Mornings spent chasing scents and finding treasure certainly make winter feel far behind now.

This morning we found a car in the trees just up the hill from the house. On our rounds we didn't see many birds, and for some reason no deer this year (see last years entries for deer sightings). The car, though, is an interesting surprise - we missed it last year and it was right under our nose(s).

It's so nice to be out in the evening sun

With the temperature on the rise it means that being outside as the sun sets is a much more pleasant experience. It also means that those shots I've been hankering to get all winter can finally get done.

This shot is the other side of the waterfall seen in an earlier blog entry. The sun is setting this time and the water is not quite as fierce.

Needless to say, we are enjoying a nice Easter Sunday and, though it's raining outside, we are quite comfortable with the fire going. It's a good time to start planning those spring projects.

Finally, out in the backyard

Now that the snow has moved downriver Logan and I can head out to the back 40 see what's left behind. Logan loves this, of course. He runs from spot to spot taking it all in.

In the meantime, we hear that Toronto has had more snow. To that we say, "Don't send it here! We're done with it."

The power of nature.

This is a river about 10 minutes from our house. You can see the pounding that the building on the right is taking from the steady flow of water. Amazing that anything is left standing after a few years of spring thaws.

The football practice for this afternoon has been cancelled.

All prospective swim team members should report to the football field for try-outs.

Spring has sprung, and as a result rivers throughout North America are bursting at the seams to handle all of the melted snow and rainfall. These shots were taken in Bedford this afternoon and show the short-term impact of all of that H2O on the landscape. A little more water and the bridge wouldn't be a bridge anymore.

BTW - the baseball field and football field always flood this time of year, but they'll be playable by May. I suppose you could pitch from the mound, but the catcher would have a hard time with those errant sliders in the dirt - not to mention that everyone else on the team would be wading around in a foot of water.
